Ines and her intern were professional in cooking, we experienced local German cuisine and eating style. We spent such a good time with each other. I strongly recommend to take this experience if you want to explore the local life and food.

The 6+ hours this experience takes are more than worth it! We met Kit at the Winterfeldplatz market on a nice sunny morning and started the day off with espresso from one of the Italian booths are the market. While we got acquainted, Kit told us a little bit about how she got in to food and how she came to teach this class. After our intro, we went to the fresh produce and cheese stands at the market to find the best seasonal ingredients Berlin had to offer! This was a locavore dream experience. After getting to know the ingredients, how to make substitutions if something wasn't good at the moment, and trying more fantastic regional cheeses than we needed to, we headed to a local wine shop. Along the way, Kit told us about the history of Berlin and showed us the different architecture, stumbling stones, and discussed food culture. We learned that there are many more opportunities to forage for food in Berlin (herbs, berries, mushrooms if you're knowledgeable) and got to try our hand at finding stinging nettles to add to our salads later that day. At the wine shop, Kit told us about the great variety of wine Germany has to offer, despite only hearing about Reisling and Gewürztraminer in the US. We picked up two bottles to enjoy during our meal and moved on to our final stop before cooking, a chocolate shop! We got to try some local chocolate and caramels just around the corner from Kit's house and it was a great opportunity to pick up a few tasty souvenirs. Once we had all of our ingredients, we headed up to Kit's beautiful apartment in a historic building and started preparing our four-course German lunch! Kit was very helpful and explanatory when we were working with unfamiliar ingredients but also gave us space to work if we knew how to do something already. We had a great time cooking all of our food, learning even more about Berlin and how the dishes we were preparing fit into the seasonal cycle of meals. By the end of the meal, it felt like we were talking with an old friend. We would absolutely recommend this experience!

My husband and I LOVED this experience. You won't find anything else like it. We met with Kit at the farmers market. She told us all about where the groceries came from, what we might do with them, and what to look out for. Our group then walked to her beautiful apartment to cook up a delicious, seasonal, organic meal. Kit is a fabulous host, engaging, curious, and easy going. If you are looking for a local experience, book a half day with Kit.

Fabulous day with Kit learning about Modern German Cooking
While planning to attend a one-day business meeting in Hannover in February, a colleague and I decided to include Berlin in our plans before heading home. Found Schoene Heimat online and was thrilled to learn that Kit could a arrange an English-speaking cooking class that would accommodate multiple food intolerances, especially, no gluten, soy, eggs or chicken. We met Kit in the Winterfeldplatz Markt (outdoor farmer's market) on Saturday morning to purchase our ingredients, made a couple additional stops for other provisions (of course, some wine!!) then headed to her apartment to start chopping and cooking. The day started with a dreary rain, but then the skies cleared and we had a beautiful day. Kit's apartment has wonderfully high ceilings and big windows. It was a delightful day!! We made wild boar sausage (in casings and wrapped in cabbage leaves), root vegetable soup, a beautiful salad and topped everything off with chocolate pudding. We wrapped up the class having lunch with the food we just made -- all delicious (of course, we made it!). Highly recommend spending the day with Kit and learning Modern German Cooking.

Memorable private cooking class of German food
Wonderful private class for me and my wife. Takes you through the purchase of meat and produce at the market to cooking and eating the final product. Kit does a good job of understanding what your preferences are and in walking you through the food preparation steps - all done in her apartment.

One of our favorite experiences in Berlin! My husband and I spent a fun day with Kit and two other visitors. We learned a bit about the culture, the food and life in her neighborhood. Kit has an easy nature and created an enjoyable afternoon with a delicious meal that we created.

I took the class with Kit last week. You can also book through Airbnb experiences. The class started with a market tour, it was a joy seeing all the gorgeous produce. Kit seems to be a regular there, all the purveyors were happy to see her and offered us samples.
We (4 women total in the class), then went back to Kits home kitchen and prepared a four course meal. Everything is very seasonal, I'm certain the menu doesn't repeat! The food was delicious and kit was an excellent host and instructor. All in all, a very enjoyable experience that I highly recommend.

We toured a bustling local market with Kit and chatted with vendors about local produce. Also selected wine from a local shop. We joined Kit in her home, helping to prepare quite a number of interesting & delicious dishes, for lunch. Time flew, as we spent over 6 enjoyable hours with Kit, and picked up a number of cooking concepts & also info about Germany & Berlin.

First off Kit was an amazing host and incredibly easy to get along with. The tour of the market was great and at a great pace. We had a chance to stop by stalls we found interesting while also working with some of her preferred vendors.
On the walk home, we learned a bit about the area and even a little taste of urban foraging.
Kit's kitchen is great and feels like you are cooking at home. My wife and I enjoyed this class and I have already recommended this to multiple people visiting Berlin in months to come.

We had a fun morning with Kit. Firstly at the market to buy some ingredients, then back at Kit’s house where we prepared some very modern, fresh, light German food.
Kit was fantastic, she made the whole experience fun. She explained the dishes very well & we were only a small group of five so we each had plenty of hands on food preparation.
I would recommend this market tour/ cooking class to anybody who is interested in German food with a modern twist. Overall a delicious, fun & interesting morning with a great bunch of people.

The whole experience with Kit was amazing. It started with a handshake and finished with a hug. Going through the local organic market with Kit showed us a new world of seasonal and quality produce. She explained where the products came from, made us taste honey, apples and meat, and talk to the producers. The class itself was comprised of 3 dishes (salad, main dish and dessert) accompanied by champagne and wine. We learned how to work with new roots, vegetables and meat. Kit's place is an amazing apartment very nearby the market and next to some really cool food, chocolate and wine shops. Kit is really passionate about what she does and that creates such an easy going atmosphere, essential for such an experience.

My fiancee and I like to take cooking classes when traveling. Kit's class was great. It was close to the market where we bought everything fresh, we learned some history, and all about the ingredients for what we were making. This was also German food, not Bavarian pretzels, schnitzel, etc. Her kitchen was beautiful and it was fun having a small, personal class. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a class.

Explore culinary Germany with Kit is a must do if you are visiting this city or a local that wants to experience shopping at the market and the little shops on your way back to Kit's kitchen to cook. The enthusiasm and passion Kit has for cooking and the hands on with her in the kitchen preparing all the courses make for a culinary experience that you get to enjoy after 3 hours of preparation. The meal is out of this world and you were part of the preparation from start to finish. Thank you Kit for a lovely day with you and the meal was delicious. We can't wait to go home and prepare the soup, meatballs and apple strudel for our friends. I highly recommend Kit's culinary exploration of Berlin and Beyond.

Kit is a truly passionate chef and foodie – she loves the stories behind the products, searches always for the freshest and most interesting ingredients. She is super creative when it comes to cooking, always ready to try something new. If you love fresh garden cuisine, you will instantly fall in love with Kit's style of cooking. It's simply fresh, honest and delicious, yet with a certain rafinesse.

Kit provided us with a wonderful culinary experience in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. An outstanding cook, hostess and conversationalist, Kit conveyed intricate knowledge of local, seasonal produce, products and ingredients. Her highly organized yet seemingly effortless guidance, in combination with her obviously well-honed skills, yielded a feast of nuanced flavors in sometimes surprising, delicious combinations, equally pleasing to the palate and the eye. Kit's passion and creativity served as a fantastic inspiration for the home cook. Attention to detail extended to interesting twists on freshly made non-alcoholic beverages as well as a lovely choice of wines to complement the dishes of the day. Plus, Kit's ability to spark and support children's enthusiasm for the culinary arts was a delight to behold. A most delicious slice of local culture.

My girlfriend and I were looking for an authentic Berlin cooking experience and we found it in Kit's market tour and cooking class! After visiting the market to pick up fresh meats, fruits and veggies, we returned to Kit's kitchen to prepare a delicious meal of wild herb tomato salad with figs and goat cheese, ‘Kohlrouladen’ (stuffed cabbage rolls)(both meat and vegetarian versions), and plum cake with whipped cream. Preparing it was half the fun and we enjoyed several glasses of sekt while we worked in the kitchen. The results were delicious and we enjoyed delightful conversation with our host. By the time we were done it seemed more like we had just made lunch and dined with a close friend than taken a cooking class. Cooking and dinning are a great way to experience a place and Kit's class was a high point of our trip to Berlin. Highly recommended.

It was with high expectations that I took Kit's market tour and cooking class. But even so, I was completely blown away by the experience, which turned out to be so much better than I had thought possible. She instantly made friends with everyone and took us away on a journey into the realm of food. She has so much to share about the specialty produce we saw at the Winterfeld farmer's market. The visit in the chocolate store was a revelation (and very hard to leave). We arrived in Kit's kitchen with what seemed to be an impossible variety of food which we then amazingly were able to turn into a gorgeous three course menu under her helpful and well organized guidance. The dishes were improvised around what we found on the market on that day, inspired by traditional german food heritage but interpreted by Kit in a fresh new way. The details like her home grown Lila Luzy chilies and the awesome german sparkling wine that she found in a small wine specialty shop were just perfect as well. Dinner was served in her nice and welcoming dining room underneath a green chandelier. Kit is a very warm and open host and most of all she's lots of fun. It was a unique and great Berlin experience to fondly remember for a very long time.

Kit has taken me on an adventurous food tour through Berlin's beautiful Winterfeld Market. I got to know beautiful colored wild herbs and edible leaves, a variety of funny looking German cabbages and potatoes, and wonderful local meat and poultry. Back in her home kitchen, I learned how to make stuffed cabbage rolls, an old Byzantine recipe and from the middle ages, and German plum cake. Our group had the home-made meal in Kit's wonderful, traditional "Speisesaal" (dining hall) that is crowned by the most amazing porcelain chandelier. Kit is extremely knowledgable and a very creative cook, and a gracious host. The food and wine selection was impeccable and the whole group enjoyed spending a wonderful day in a Berlin home.
